1 You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and live in the province of Quebec.
2 You have lived or still live in the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) for at least 12 months during the past two years.
3 You are capable of providing for your own basic needs.
4 The assets of all persons listed on the application are worth no more than $50,000.
5 The previous year's combined gross income for all those listed on the application is no more than:
- Individual: $38,000
- Couple: $38,000
- 2 people (not living as a couple) or 3 people: $43,500
- 4 or 5 people: $53,000
- 6 or 7 people: $70,000
- 8 or 9 people: $75,500
- 10 or 11 people: $78,000
- 12 people or more: $80,000
6 You are not a full-time student. (Full-time students with dependent children might be eligible.)
7 You are not a former low-rent housing tenant whose lease was cancelled for abandonment, nonpayment of a debt to the landlord or as a result of a decision by the Régie du logement.
If your situation meets all criteria 1 to 7, you could qualify for all our types of housing, depending on your age.
However, if your situation does not meet some of the criteria, including the income criteria, some options are still available (see the types of housing).

Occupancy standards
Here are a few questions that we are frequently asked concerning occupancy standards in low-rent housing and answers to these questions:
- How many people can live in one low-rent housing unit?

The number of people comprising the household (people living alone, couple or family) determines the type of housing and number of rooms that can be allocated:
- a studio for a single person;
- a one-room unit for a single person or a couple;
- one additional room for each additional person.
However, a single bedroom is allocated for:
- two (2) children younger than 7; or
- two (2) children under 14 and of the same gender, in so far as their age difference is no more than 6 years.
- Is it possible to have an additional room for a member of the household living with a disability?

One additional bedroom may be allocated to a person whose handicap or means of coping with the handicap prevents them from sharing a room.
- Is it possible to have a room for a child in shared custody?

Yes, if a child is in shared custody, an additional bedroom may be allocated only if the child remains in the household concerned for at least 40% of the time.
- Why is it that only those people whose names appear on the lease are authorized to live in the apartment?

Because the size of the allocated home is determined by the number of persons included in the lease and because the rent is determined by the income of all people living in the unit. That's why only those people included in the lease are permitted to live in the unit.
- What should I do if there is a change in my household composition?

If there is a change in your household composition, please inform us by e-mail or call us at 514-868-5588. By doing so, we can allocate you a unit of appropriate size for your occupancy needs. It is also needed to calculate accurately the amount of rent you have to pay.
- Are we permitted to have pets?

Pets are allowed in OMHM apartments, but must be kept on a leash when outside the home. They must not bother or injure other tenants, nor damage OMHM property. Their droppings must also be collected without fail.
