50 transitional housing units with support services in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough
This collaboration between the OMHM and Communia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of social and affordable housing, consists of a three-story modular building.
- 50 transitional housing units with support services for women who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness:
- single-occupancy units;
- units for people with reduced mobility on the ground floor;
- each unit will include a sleeping area, a bathroom with a private shower and toilet, built-in storage, and a kitchen area with a sink and enough space to accommodate a refrigerator and microwave oven;
- a common room, communal kitchen, and laundry room;
- administrative, technical, and maintenance spaces;
- an outside courtyard.
A location close to local services
The building will be located at 2055, avenue Elmhurst, in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, close to numerous shops, pharmacies, community resources, health services, and green spaces. The area is well-served by public transit (buses and the Montreal-West train line).
Projected timeline
Construction will take place between September 2026 and February 2027.

An innovation lab to combat the housing crisis
This project is the result of a collaboration between the OMHM, the nonprofit organization Communia, and the City of Montreal. The lot, currently vacant following a fire in 2025, will be donated by the Société d’habitation du Québec.
The building will be dedicated to meeting the needs of women who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. The tenants will be eligible for a subsidy that will allow them to pay 25% of their income as rent. The Old Brewery Mission, Montreal's largest homelessness organization, will support the tenants throughout their stay and as they work toward securing permanent housing.
From the very beginning of the project, the team brought on board Les Industries Bonneville as the designer and contractor. Their expertise and experience in modular construction enable them to provide quick and cost-effective solutions for the building’s construction.
The project was announced on July 15, 2026, at the OMHM offices.
