The OMHM is responsible for maintenance of common areas, the grass and pedestrian walkways, as well as repairs of defects. The OMHM is also in charge of removing snow from apartment building entries and exists. Tenants are responsible for removing snow from their own outdoor parking spaces.
The OMHM provides its tenants with safe buildings. However, all tenants must observe rules for ensuring the safety of their neighbours. It is important, for example, not to let strangers into the building Tenants who wish to report safety issues can call 514-872-OMHM (6646) on a 24/7basis.
Patrol teams also visit Montréal's social housing accommodations to ensure there are no safety issues. In apartment buildings of 40 or more units, tenant safety attendants provide a physical presence outside office hours and help keep residants and buildings safe. Many other initiatives have also been implemented to ensure tenant safety, such as the installation of CTV equipment inside and outside many buildings and the use of swipe cards in place of building keys.
Living in harmony with your neighbours requires everyone's cooperation. The OMHM strives to provide a living environment free of any form of harassment or discrimination. The Service du développement communautaire et social works closely with tenants to promote harmonious coexistence in OMHM buildings and to ensure that tenants feel respected there. It also assists tenants who wish to form associations and supports existing associations in their efforts and activities. Community rooms in apartment buildings are made available to tenant associations that wish to host activities.
The OMHM makes washers and dryers available to tenants in the apartment buildings and in certain other structures.
The OMHM offers tenants parking spaces in most apartment buildings. Space rental charges are indicated in the lease and depend ont he type of space rented (indoor or outdoor). Building tenants are first in line for such spaces. Waiting lists are established on a first come-first served basis. Tenants should ask their rental agent to reserve them a space.
