Rent Supplement Program Occupancy Rules

As a subsidized tenant, you must provide the names of all people living with you to the OMHM. This information is important in providing a unit complying with occupancy rules.

Occupancy Rules are:

  • A studio for a single person.
  • A one-bedroom apartment for a single individual or couple.
  • An additional bedroom for each additional person.
  • Howeverm just one bedroom for:
    • Two children under the age of 7.
    • Two children of the same sex under the age of 14, if their age difference is no more than 6 years.

You must advise us in writing if another person joins (birth, additional children, marriage, union) or leaves (death, separation, placement), the household. Only those whose names appear on the lease schedule may live in the unit.

This information enables us to:

  • Provide you with an apartment of the appropriate size in terms of the occupancy rules.
  • Properly calculate the rent supplement to be paid to the owner.

What About Temporary Occupancy?

Temporary occupancy of someone not listed on the lease schedule is only permitted by the OMHM and own in the case of an emergency, but proof of the person's department is required. You must notify your rental officer when such situations arise.
