Offering an apartment

The OMHM signs agreements with landlords under the rent supplement program (PSL) to reserve apartments on the private market. The OMHM then offers them to households on the public housing waiting list.

Except for the OMHM's monthly subsidy payment to the landlord, relations between landlord and tenant are subject to the customary legal provisions for rental housing.

The landlord is primarily responsible for offering the unit, keeping it habitable, and giving the tenant who is renting through the program the same rights and privileges as other tenants.

Benefits for a landlord who provides units to the OMHM

  • An agreement with the OMHM guarantees that the units reserved will be rented.
  • The OMHM tenant selection process eliminates the issues involved in trying to rent a vacant unit.
  • The OMHM's monthly payment of a significant portion of the rent minimizes revenue losses.
